Judging by yesterday's email exchange, I can conclude the following:
1) I really suspect that, protestations to the contrary, all of these emails are connected.
2) British Telecom is still not the brightest candle in the chandelier.
3) London really, really screwed up yesterday.
4) I am really glad I don't live in the Amazon.

Subject: Starwatch assets
Priority: Nine (Low)
Message Body:
London Central is officially requesting the assistance of any personnel who have access to astronomical assets, particularly telescopes, capable of magnification scales greater than 500x. Such assets would need to be in use for a less then ten minutes to perform a basic sky survey. University equipment would perform admirably.
This is purely a cursory request for a basic sky survey. No compliance with this request is demanded.

Subject: Astro assets
Priority: Five (Moderate)
Message Body:
London Central is issuing a priority five request for any skywatch assets currently available for a detailed sky survey, including any and all educational astronomical assets, commercial radar arrays, and dedicated scientific research implements that we have access to. Also, any personnel familiar with orbital surveys are asked to report directly to London Central to offer their surveys for a priority five sky survey.
A priority five standing order (20080903-1145) is also entered into effect: any information regarding abnormalities in either atmospheric or astronomical surveys is to be reported immediately to London Central until such time as this order is canceled.

Subject: Orbital Tracking - High Priority
Priority: Three (High)
Message Body:
London Central is authorizing the immediate seizure of all astronomical and military survey equipment within our domain for an urgent sky survey of +11 sector geosynchronous orbits. This is a priority three request and response is mandatory. The activation of HIGHLINE assets is hereby permitted, under the authority of London Central: authority 2172. Urgent information is also requested regarding any and all ventures into the upper atmosphere currently contained in the database.
Any personnel with extensive experience in either XT Engineering, or orbital mechanics is requested to report immediately to London Central for a task of level three priority. This should be considered an urgent priority, and any non-priority two tasks should immediately be superseded. Additionally, any personnel involved with BT1 should immediately report to their station.

Subject: Orbital Operation
Priority: One (PRIORITY)
Message Body:
This is an urgent request for any personnel with experience in orbital operations, low- and zero-gravity combat, high atmospheric flight, XT Engineering, X level maintenance, or any qualifications in orbital construction, to immediately report to their duty station. This is a PRIORITY request and supersedes any previous request for your allocation unless overridden specifically by command. Under this order, London Central hereby pre-empts control of all civilian spaceborn assets, and order the immediate seizure and retention of the primary NASA launch sites. Effective immediately, the SETI project is suspended, and all skywatch assets dedicated to said search are to be redirected to our immediate task.
Additionally, London Central is looking for the temporary use of a strip of land near the equator in an isolated, relatively unpopulated region. This would ideally be relatively flat, as well as cleared of any major obstacles.
Until the situation is resolved, we are requesting that all personnel be prepared to react to updated orders at moment's notice. ROE Red Five is now in effect.

Priority: ZERO
Message Body:
This is a PRIORITY ZERO Order. It supersedes all other orders unless issued under a PRIORITY ZERO Code. Red ZERO is now in effect.
Tokyo Tower is issuing an immediate Red ZERO authorization code for the planet Earth (Alpha 2160). The following orders are being issued:
* All non-critical operations are to cease immediately.
* Within the next twelve hours all essential personnel and functions are to be evacuated from any location within five kilometers of the ocean, an active volcano, or an active earthquake fault, or any location within a hundred meters of vertical elevation from sea level.
* All critical personnel are to be evacuated off-planet immediately.
* All Air Defense Units are to be scrambled immediately. You are to move directly to your assembly point and await further orders.
* Any personnel with any familiarity with the British Telecom's MJOLNIR Orbital Weapons System are ordered to link into FRONTLINE immediately.
Additionally, we require a strip of land three hundred kilometers in length within five hundred kilometers of the equator to be made available immediately to Central Command. If possible, this area should be devoid of major human habitation, and contain no objects not considered expendable.
All other personnel are to report to their duty stations immediately as described in the Red ZERO SOP. Do NOT clutter communications channels.
