Things are Still F*cked Up

Nobody knows what's going on.
People from Carmel Valley are being evacuated to sites in Del Mar. People who live in Del Mar are being evacuated to sites north in Los Angeles. There may or may not be a mandatory evacuation order in place at my father's house. There may or may not be an evacuation advisory for my apartment. Stories change from minute to minute and news channel to news channel. The county websites have not been updated since 5:00 pm. Nobody knows. Everybody watches and waits, working their nervous energy out in laughing about the predicament they find themselves in, always tense, always watching to the east.
One thing everyone agrees on; tomorrow will be just as hot, dry, and windy as today.
In the distance you can sometimes hear the rumble as the Marines evacuate their planes from Miramar. I can see Miramar from my window. If the Marines are going, it may be time to think about packing.

Date: 2007-10-23 02:25 pm (UTC)My only family in the region is my father, who already has his stuff packed. I don't have that much to carry, and am pretty much ready to go. I'll lose a lot, but I didn't have much to begin with.
The fire is currently sitting still - I don't think the winds have budged it south this evening, so they haven't considered putting in an evacuation order for my region. And my father doesn't want to leave until they've ordered him out either (with all the evacuations, the fire teams are asking people who are not evacuating to stay off the roads).
So I'm sitting tight. I'll go into work today probably because the air is better.
Don't worry about me. Everything is going according to some sort of plan.
Oh, and there's free food down at Qualcomm stadium. As of last night they were asking people not to send any more food donations - they had far too much. Especially no more pizza.
