So Turkey's parliament has finally given the long-awaited go-ahead, approving an invasion of Iraq by Turkish forces, despite US and Iraqi protests. The government claims that this does not mean an attack is imminent, but I worry that the next time the PKK tries something, Turkey is going to roll right into Iraq. The PKK claims that they have thousands of guerrillas waiting to fight Turkey. One wonders how many regular Kurdish forces are included in that accounting.

And of course the US can't really object. The international precedent of fighting terrorists (a label we gave to the PKK) by engaging in unilateral invasions of a Middle Eastern country has already been established. And Turkey even knows where the terrorists are located. All the Turks have to do is say "Ha ha! Bush doctrine!", and that ends that debate.

Hopefully, the Turks won't invade, but hope is a very fragile thing these days.

Well, at least we didn't annoy the Turks by approving that Armenian genocide thing! ...oh, wait.

Given that they're waiting for a Gulf of Tonkin-esque incident, will this be Turkey's Vietnam?
