Random things of interest today:

Ugandan police have arrested a Ghanian "Prophet" named Obiri Yeboah, according to Reuters for possession of a small gadget known as the Electric Touch, a magician's tool commonly used to deliver a slight electric shock to a member of the audience as part of a performance. Apparently the police are worried that he will use this device, and some simple sleight of hand, to fool people into believing that he can perform miracles, such as curing AIDS.

Whatever happened to the days when all a Prophet had to do was part the Red Sea to get recognized?

And the Chinese report that Chinese agriculture is in danger from a swarm of approximately Two Billion Rats, which is currently eating its way through Hunan province. Officials report that they have killed 2 million or so (90 tons) of rodents, since June 21st. Apparently it's getting more difficult, since the logistics of storing the bodies of 90 tons of dead rats so that they will not infect the ground water is quite difficult. This further complicates troubles in nearby provinces, where 488,000 people have already been relocated to save them from the flooding Huaihe River. All in all, China's not having a good year in the countryside.

And, although it's a bit old, a recent study shows that Cosmic Ray Flux and Solar Variance are not a primary cause of global warming. Which means that the Climate Change deniers will have to scramble to find a new theory, or will have to come up with a good rebuttal to this one. We'll be interested in watching what they come up with. Meanwhile, average temperatures will continue to rise.
