Yesterday, my Dad discovered how to make charcoal.
1) Take 1 pound beans, place in pot.
2) Put in enough water to thoroughly submerge the beans.
3) Place lid on pot.
4) Heat pot over medium-high flame until water boils.
5) Take family off to store and lunch for three hours.
6) Return. Find pot. Turn off stove. Set pot outdoors to let it cool.
7) Open pot. Remove charcoal.
I'm quite pleased at the way it turned out. Judging from the consistency, it should burn admirably and well inside the barbecue.
The downside of this is that the house now positively reeks of smoke. Now that I'm confirmed in my determination not to become a casual smoker, I have to figure out a way to keep from smelling like one.
