I have five stars on GAFF. Why do I have five stars?

(looks around suspiciously)

I've spent some time thinking about what to say if I ever can find my benefactor. I'm not sure how I feel, I do feel grateful that I have enough recognition that somebody would be willing to do that for me (or at least decided to drop some cash on my name)-but I feel a bit of a heel too, because I was getting set up to pay after I finished moving in July. Maybe I should cut this unknown person a check.

Actually, it's not going to change much. I don't feel any urge to go into the CC (I noticed the stars on Thursday morning but I haven't been in the CC yet)-nor can I really think of anything to do. But it was still a very nice gesture, and I'm grateful to whomever did it.

On a GAFF sort of note I'm looking for a relatively long story to hit for my thousandth post. Since nobody on my FL really shares my fandoms (or the fandoms I'm willing to admit to) I don't expect much help, but does anybody have any sources where they routinely find epic-length works from anime-based fandoms?

You got sponsored, too?

That's been going around a lot, lately. Don't think yourself a heel -- try to see it as someone deciding that you belong. At least, that's how I approached it when I got sponsored.

If there's anything ominous on the horizon, think of it as the opening maneuvers in a war brewing between the old guard and the fanbrats who've joined lately. You are of the old guard, and we all know it -- all your mysterious sponsor did was fork out some money to make it official.

As for the CC, by all means read it. Have aspirin handy. You'll need it.

I call for the front line!

There's been rumour going around that Knorg's sponsorer. Or at least, he did sponsor for HurriKaty, the queen of fangirls. Which is pretty suspiscious.

I was the first person to be sponsered for access to the CC and I've rarely posted in there. Like you, I can't really think of anything to post either. What I'd say would be posted already by someone else and just typing a post agreeing with that person would be redundant (which just goes to show how smart some of the people in the CC are).

Ah well. Welcome to the CC.

Regarding fandoms and epic amounts of crap, try mediaminer. It's how I won one of the challenges at GAFF with little effort into searching.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that your sponsor mentioned sponsoring you in an entry of her LJ (somewhere in the comments). I'll let you play detective.

Yes, Knorg has been sponsoring people but he's not the only one - I know that anticipation_nation brought in Hydrangea and someone (can't recall who) beat me to it for Araniell. I think that Knorg has let some very cool people in (Loki, CharlesRB, for example), and some very weird people in. I'm not quite sure why he's doing it, but I'm sure that those who followed his idea are doing it because they think that your presence would probably contribute in one way or another to the CC. And of course, if you still want to make a donation, nothing's stopping you. ;)

Non-Union Scab brought in Araniell. I am forever grateful to hir. :D

I'm rather weirded out by the sudden rush of sponsored members, though. I don't remember it happening like this before.

Well, it started with Knorg doing it to a couple of people, and then other contributors who intended to contribute again realised that they could use the occasion to have a member they like (or deem worthy of being sponsored, or whatever) come into the Country Club.

I mean, you contribute once, become a Contributor and get into the CC, but contributions made after that don't add anything to your status or whatever, so you might as well make someone else happy in the process. Many of the members who were sponsored had publicly grumbld that they wanted to contribute, but couldn't for various reasons (no Paypal account, no credit card, no cash, whatever).

I also have slightly mixed feelings about this process, but I can't really put my finger on why...

First off, I'd like to say that I'm supremely grateful to Anti for making me a Contrib, but there's some things I can think of right away:

1) Idiots are going to get into the Club. Look at HurriKaty, for chrissakes.
2) The Club's going to be crowded as hell if this keeps up. It might drive some of the older Contribs away. Whatever happened to Mimi, for instance?
3) It seems to be becoming some kind of bizarre contest among some people.
4) There's a chance that another level of GAFF hierarchy might form. Before, it was just the non-Contribs and the Contribs (And yes, the hierarchy does exist, despite what people say.). Now, it's going to be the non-Contribs, the Contribs, and the real Contribs.

However, the pros of contributing for others outweigh the cons for now.

Mimi sponsored me into the Club, long before all the 'cool kids' caught on – her gesture came as a surprise to me but I never mentioned it before now because I was the only one. I hardly think she would be put off by so many other people, considering she’s the unsung starter of this craze. As far as I know, she's busy re-moving back to Australia.

I donated for Hydrangea because a) I noticed she'd been grumbling about it for a while and b) She's not one of the 'idiots.'

I don't really plan on 'sponsoring' other people, or creating my own 'team' of sponsored contribs, though I will still send money roughly every month. The sudden rush of sponsored members: coincidence, I think. It'll die down once all the 'worthy' non-contrib members have been recruited.

Idiots get in, but get smacked down. Hurrikaty has shut up and sat back down. If that kind of order could be maintained, it would be nice. It's what makes me hesitant to post in there, but in a good way.

But the bizarr-o contest could definitely become a possibility, as well as the over-crowdedness. If only the rest of GAFF wasn't such a squeeing madhouse, people wouldn't feel the need to retreat to CC Haven.

I didn't do charles RB. What happened was, someone said they were going to, and I said, 'oh, they beat me to it.' Someone said that they were going to do it for Dan in PM, but if they've not mentioned it then it's not my place - plus, it might not have been them anyway. Some of the people I've contributed for have since contributed for other people, kind of like that shitty 'pay it forward' movie. I never suggested they should, of course.

Site Guru is always grateful for contributions in his emails, and with only one exception I believe, has never said anything about possible... incidents. And even that was more of a 'haha, be interesting to see what happens,' type reply. At any rate, back when I PM'd to ask about contributing for other people, he said he was happy for the process and that it had been done before as gift.

As for 'idiots' joining (further down discussion), a heck of a lot of 'idiots' have money. Most 'idiots' will no doubt join for themselves if they stick around, just to see what's what. As may be known, I have no problems with Karmyn, but some people do - and she joined off her own bat to some people's chagrin.

Loki, yes. I contributed for Shadeshark most recently.

Okay, there was a problem with Denimjo's paypal account. I am doing Charles after all. Not in the harem sense.

I second Meg - donate anyway!

The CC is certainly a more interesting place these days; it didn't implode yet, but only time will tell ;)

To be honest, when those five stars popped up, I freaked.

See, I tried to donate some time ago, but Paypal beat me around the head and shoulders. . . after I'd given it my credit card information.

So when I was told I was in the CC, I said, "uh, oh. Why did it only just now go through? Might other places have done this too? Has my credit card been on file with them all this time? WHERE'S MY CREDIT CARD STATEMENT!? AAAAAAAUIGH!"

I at least knew that I hadn't given out my credit card recently, so I didn't freak out like that. I was just very confused.

I'm friending you by the way, to keep track of you.
