There's a superb introductory-level article about code at Bloomberg. Here, it's very, very, very long. 38,000 words to be more precise, so don't embark upon it lightly, but if you ever were curious about how programming works or what those overpaid idiots in my profession actually deal with, this is probably the best introduction I've ever seen, including textbooks on the subject.

It's also a good way to waste a couple of hours, even if you know something about the subject already.

I've just started the article you linked and it looks very interesting as well as entertaining. One of my friends is a high level Java programmer who does a lot of work for Apple so I have a bit of knowledge on the subject. (Seriously, I can not have a conversation about computing devices with her or her husband because they're so embedded in Apple for consumer products (the husband is a sysadmin and his jobs tend to be hush hush). I like Apple products but I am no fanatic, and I am sensitive to price point versus performance so...) Heh. I might send her the article, she might get a kick out of it. :)
