I've forgotten how strange it is for the historically minded to play Civilization III. I'm having to deal with the fact that, in the face of my respect for the man and his principles, and despite his behavior during his long and eventful life, I've just been stabbed in the back by Mahatma Gandhi.

Non-violent resistance my foot. I'm going to go cram those war elephants up his ass.

I think my husband has that game. He has remarked that it had some "historical inconsistencies" before. And now I know what he meant.

I've played a similar game, where I was shocked by violent military offensive behavior from the *Dutch*, of all nations. The outrage at having to contend with stiff opposition from an unexpected source is surprising, isn't it? The mind reels at Warlord!Gandhi.

I got CIV IV for my birthday. It's heaps better than Civ III. :-P Not sure if Gandhi is a backstabber in it though.

I have the "Play the World" expansion pack, and am currently kicking ass with the Celts. We've wiped out the Arabians and America is next.

I've looked and looked for Civ 4 but I haven't been able to find a copy yet.
