Still Hot

I haven't been on for a while because I managed to make myself sick in spectacular, stupid fashion (food-sick, not disease-sick), which was not very fun. Also, nothing exciting happens here.

Part of that is due to the weather. It's been hot here, and if there's one thing that you should know about living in Illinois when it's hot, it's that the heat brings out high natural growth in construction cones. Those things have been springing up everywhere. In fact, every major road leading to my apartment complex is under construction. Since it takes about 2-3 months for them to finish work on one intersection, or repave a section of road (sometimes more), I expect traffic to be hopelessly snarled until about mid-September.

Of course, I'm not sure whether that means I should basically live in my apartment like a hermit until it's over, or never go home and be a pathetic, rootless vagabond. Whatever. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.

If you've got some goodwill to spare today, Tropical Storm Emily is hovering within 100 kilometers of Port-au-Prince, Haiti right now, a city where over 600,000 people are still living in tents. Currently it looks like the heart of the storm will pass slightly west of the main city, but even so a possibly devastating near miss is about to hit one of the world's largest populations of internally displaced homeless people. Wish them luck - it's too late now for anything else.
