It's a game with a lot of debate about it, but I think that storywise the debate misses the point. People blame it for being sillier and having less dramatic impact then its predecessor, but I think it was supposed to - or part of it was. This is probably where JRPGs started to have problems, when the graphics got good enough that you suddenly realized how ludicrous things were...
