I live!

I have obtained an apartment and inside that apartment I have obtained internet access. It feels like I've just been freed from limbo.

Well, maybe not that good, but I can start catching up on things. As soon as I get through the stack of messages specifically threatening pets I don't have (I've already taken care of the ones threatening family members).

Felicitations on the new apartment! I know what you mean about not having the internet -- it's like suddenly being unable to communicate. What did you end up getting?

Just a simple one bedroom, not very large, but with some good features. It's not great - I already have some complaints about it, but it's what you can get here for under $2000. This place is definitely crazy when it comes to real estate...

Sometimes Real Estate has very little connection to reality it seems. I just caught a brief bit of a blurb about it (so I could be wrong as to the details) but apparently property values in Toronto have gone mad, and something not-at-all-upscale can cost more than something comparable in New York.

It's Toronto. Granted, it's not a bad city, but I wouldn't live there if given a choice. With those property values I could live more cheaply in New York, Boston, or Vancouver. (And knowing me you you likely know that I'd pick Boston or Vancouver. Neither, actually, and something smaller and closer to wild spaces, in reality, but if I *had* to choose.) To each their own, I suppose.

Hopefully the issues prove to be negligible, and you enjoy the new place as well as the new job.

Well, I'll hope. Part of the real estate problem here is that the economy here is still roaring along, and wiping out a whole bunch of people at the lower end. Without much room to expand geographically, real estate goes in waves. Probably the same in Toronto - local demand rises, housing doesn't.
