It's a really seductive melody I've heard time and again - a modern day warped version of Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. Man finds horrific situation, man decides to fix horrific situation, man decides to teach locals how to fight for themselves and then leads them to victory. Man rides off into sunset. And it always seems so easy. All we have to do is find the good guys, arm them, and teach them to fight for themselves, and all the problems in Nicaragua Iran Zaire Israel Vietnam Iraq Afghanistan will be fixed.

Except that it doesn't work, because this is the real world. And this guy is operating in one of the most twisted, morally gray areas in the entire world, where the distinction between good guys and bad guys is sometimes that the good guys are just less effective at planning genocides. Or sometimes just less well armed.

I can see the movie turning into a PR fiasco already, because I don't see how it's going to avoid looking like "White man comes into Africa to save black people because they can't save themselves".
