Thinking about this, it occurs to me that I came to this conclusion after watching several people who should know a great deal more about relationships then I do get into a lot of trouble by ending up in relations where one side just gave and gave and the other just took and took. The genders switch from time to time, but I think it's the prime symptom of what people call "just not being that into you" - one partner is just not willing to put anything into it, and instead of a consensus of some sort, you end up in a case of emotional vampirism.

Watching a few too many cases of that tends to make me think of relationships in a more give-and-take manner then I believe is commonplace in the rest of society. I'm not sure what that really says about me as oppossed to the rest of the world.
