I'm Losing My Soul

Two milestones on my slide into suburbanite existence:

1) I've broken down and gotten a Costco membership. This may seem strange because, as a single male who lives in a one bedroom apartment, there isn't really anything I can buy at Costco that will fit through my door. But I did manage to find a box of strawberries that I could tie to the roof of my car and fit through the sliding glass door.

2) I've started paying for almost everything by credit card. I've got finally gotten one of those fancy credit cards with a better rewards program and everything, so now I'm going around being an asshole and buying everything with a credit card. Well, except for things that cost less then $5, or at stores I really like. Obviously, I'm becoming more and more of a menace.

Soon I expect to have to trade in my Civic for an SUV, buy a house so I spend all my free time fixing things and mowing the lawn, and refusing to shop or eat at any place that isn't a 40+ member chain and doesn't send glossy ads with pictures to my mailbox each week.

I have a Costco membership! This is a great way to buy infinite ramen. Also, that time a friend of mine decided he needed 20,000 post-it notes. ... OK, so I don't use said membership often.

I too have a Costco card. They're very useful for non-perishables, and the cost differential (and relative quality) makes it worthwhile, even though I have to travel some distance and so only go by perhaps three times during the year. Using the credit card for routine expenses that you will pay off promptly is also a very wise idea. It builds the credit rating with no risk, and no undue expenditure, which means when it comes time to get a serious loan you will get a much better deal.

Suburbia -- the inexorable vortex! :D

This is *exactly* why I put up with an old, drafty apartment - comes with a big ass attic.

Yes, do envision my attic stuffed with pallets of toilet paper and nonperishables.
